Great writing. Simply great.
All of Colin Dexter's books are great. I am currently re-reading all of them.
Keep going till there are no more Colin Dexter's left
I gave this book to Goodwill unread.
Have been a fan of the television programs. The book is clumsy and ponderous, but I like it anyway and will order more of the series.
I have enjoyed stories in the 1st and 2nd omnibuses. I got interested in them because of seeing Colin Dexter's name associated with the stories from BBC on PBS. The Morse in the books does not seem like the TV character to me but the stories are interesting. They sometimes seem a bit overly drawn out, but the reader may judge for themselves.
If you haven't read the Colin Dexter books or seen the TV series about Inspector Morse you are in for a great treat. These are among the best crime series currently in print. The character that Dexter creates in Morse was recreated by John Snow for the TV series. The same way the Basil Rathbone was Sherlock Holmes John Show will always be Morse. Morse is a lover of classical music and classical women. A combination in British detectives unlike anything on this side of the pond. Do not let these get by you. Great reading.
