After my mom and I enjoyed her first book SO much, I had to pre-order the second one and couldn't wait to read it. I took it with me on an eight-hour plane ride and completely ignored the huge selection of on-board entertainment because I just could not put this book down. Her words make you completely forget where you are.
The two women's stories were both so gripping, when it switched from Maddy to Chloe and vice-versa I was excited to find out more about the one woman but hated to leave the other. I gave the book to my mom to read as well, and, not being able to put it down either, she sat on the veranda and read the entire book during the course of a day.
We're both looking forward to another book from this wonderful author!

An enjoyable read, the story is set in both the present and past. Uncomfortable to read in parts you are taken on a roller coaster ride of varying emotions. Fantastic research done by the author, congratulations on a well written book.
The concept is interesting- parallel lives separated by generations. The backdrop of WWII is always engaging but war ends up not being a strong theme. The book is very readable, although heavy foreshadowing overcomes the element of surprise. I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This novel covers the story of Madeleine, starting in 1939, and Chloe, in the present day. On the surface, these two women would seem to have little in common and yet, as the story unfolds, we discover that they actually have a lot in common, in a myriad of ways.

I enjoyed this book very much, it was an intricately woven story which covers love in its various forms and familial ties. My heart was in my mouth on several occasions and I very much got emotionally involved.

4.5 stars from me.
